They were companions, mistresses, sometimes simple encounters, sometimes wives… History has erased many of them from our memories, leaving only their captured features, interpreted by the artist’s brush. But from this astonishing gallery of women – Adèle, Anna Maria, Griet, René, Dolly, Simonetta, and others – they emerge, stripped of their anonymity, to cross time, take the light, and come to us.

Today, it’s another woman who offers extensions, additional hours of glory to these models. To their creators as well, weaving tight and complex links around these duos. Michele ANSERMET PAPADOPOULOS carries within her the enthusiasm essential to the realization of this major project. A project consisting of 32 paintings, 5 sculptures, hundreds of hours of iconographic research, historical readings, and hundreds of hours still devoted to pure creation.

With a unique artistic touch, an irrepressible need to narrate a fact or a story, and a way of covering the canvas’s surface like a writer approaching a blank page, there is no risk of not noticing, or even confusing, a painting by Michele ANSERMET PAPADOPOULOS. Painter, visual artist, designer, a “pictorial journalist” as she describes herself, the artist is firmly rooted in her time. Although we can sense the influence of Keith HARING and Pop-Art, an obvious flirtation with figurative narration, Gérard FROMANGER, and perhaps a dalliance with comics and the clear line, her style remains personal and assertive. Willful and generous. Her palette of distinct colors serves her positions, words, and ideals.

For this exhibition titled “IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE MASTERS,” she operates as a true feminist. Indirectly, she returns a capital place to these women without whom – to dare to paraphrase Talleyrand – no Great Man would exist. This is done without omitting a tribute to Frida KHALO and Elisabeth VIGÉE-LEBRUN, or suggesting a committed sorority with Niki de SAINT PHALLE.

This is where talent and respect meet, where they come together and give everyone consistency and relief. Existence. Here, the imaginative painting of Michele ANSERMET PAPADOPOULOS, strengthened by a solid education at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in Paris, asserts itself and precisely evocatively reinvents compositions “in the manner of…” unlike any other like it. There, obviously, implicitly dubbed by these masters, inspired and driven by the desire to create, she rebalances relationships and establishes a new parity in celebrity… between Picasso and Jacqueline, Andy Warhol and Marilyn, Modigliani and Renée, Klimt and Wally, Rothko and Edith, Matisse and Lydia, Renoir and Lise.”
